The World |

The World is actually a man-made archipelago consisting 300 islands in an unique shape of the world. The map of the world is presently being built at the coastal area of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The architects have already done with almost 90% of the making of The World Dubai. This work of wonder is just among the series of artificial island projects taken in Dubai and at present being completed.
The World is being created mainly by accumulating sand dredged from the sea itself.
This wonderful creation of art is the brainchild of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the king of Dubai. The area of each of the islands at The World ranges from 23,000 m˛ to 84,000 m˛, with around 50 to 100 m of water in between individual islands.

The entire settlement covers an area of around 9 km in length and 6 km in width, encircled by an oval shaped breakwater. The lone means of transport between the islands is by boat or helicopter.
The process of dredging for making the island town of The World started in 2004. Till March, 2007 the making of The World is almost 90% done.
This wonderful construction of The World is owned by the properties of the Nakheel Corp. and being completed by the fund of the Nakheel Properties. This island is located around 4.1 km from the shore of Jumeirah, just near the Palm. Jumeirah is situated some where in between Burj Al Arab and Port Rashid in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This structure is sometimes also known as the Globe Islands.
Since the project got kick started, there have been many unconfirmed reports of celebrities purchasing islands at this wonderful town and some other planning to purchase islands in this archipelago of The World.
According to a latest information 14 islands that make up Australia and New Zealand has already been bought by Investment Dar. According to a report of 16 March 2007 the “Ireland” island has already been bought by an Irish business syndicate called Larionovo. |
| There are plans in the pipeline to build 119 units, by 2010 that will be created using imported Irish granite and limestone.
